Day One- We are a little bit sore

Well, we made it through day one without any injuries or sunburns! JD (our Habitat carpenter) set the scene for us this morning.  There are two houses, one that is almost finished and the other that still needs a lot of interior work.  As you will see in today's pictures there was a job for everyone.

Moving the siding

How many Associates does it take...

Now that we have the scaffolding up, we can get to work putting up siding.

Andy spent most of the day on the scaffold.

Meanwhile next door, Mike got started measuring dry wall....

...while Natalie carefully records the measurements on a loose piece of dry wall.

Charlotte installing cover plates on electrical outlets.  This house is nearing completion.
Dino and Russ are hard at work installing siding.  Later in the day, they will show their skill in cutting it to fit  by cutting the same piece four times.

The indefatigable JD is digging a trench for water mains.  Tough work in the Mississippi sun.
Jan is more of an inside person.  He'll have this bedroom finished in no time.

Kristin supervises Andy and Dino as they install siding.  They still ended up cutting the same piece four times.

Mike measuring something or other.  Mike likes to be precise.

Here are a  couple of our local fans.  The kids in town are all friendly and endlessly fascinated by the whole process.

Russ and Dino are making sure the siding fits perfectly.

This is Gregory.  He lives in Tutwiler and likes to help out whatever crew happens to be in town.

Not bad for a first day's work...
